Green Wedmore Meeting Wednesday 14th January 2026
Apologies: David Hopkins, Vanessa, Gail, Geoff, Emily
Updates on actions
Church Solar – no update from Mike Gelder. SM spoke with Liz A – 1 quote in for replacement part of flat roof.
Water butt project – 1 funding application outstanding. WCPC, no response yet as their meeting postponed.
Update on Cavanna Housing
Public meeting was held last November. SM met with PC Dave Kirley and Cavanna end of last year re potential planning application for Lascot Hill. More community engagement opportunities to come in 2026.
At the online meeting, Cavanna shared their presentation again. Questions and discussions on landscape and heritage. Focussed on potential environmental aspects of the build – heat pumps, solar, car charging. SM raised heat recovery ventilation, climate adaptation and addressing overheating issues. Cavanna recognise the wetness of parts of the plot. SUDS etc. Pushed on nature aspects. Recognised the woodland. SM asked about rain gardens and street lighting.
SM stressed we have remained neutral in terms of any potential planning application but we have never had pre-application discussions before with developers so a good opportunity to have an input about future builds in terms of sustainability.
LB raised importance of remaining neutral as any possible large-scale application will divide the community, and felt it important these discussions aren’t portrayed as support for the application.
