1. Summary of the year from Chair
This is the 19th Green Wedmore AGM.
Key highlights of the year:
Sunlit Solar/Solar 1000 challenge – 113 installed now, 4 more booked in for this month. At total of 754kW. Consider surveying other/existing solar in the parish to establish how close to target we are.
Solar St Mary’s project launched. Public meeting held and feedback received. Online feedback form, about 60 responses mostly in favour. Fundraising is ongoing with the next event being the Pop up Prom. Mike Gelder to meet with Historic England for pre-planning advice.
Launched new website, leaflets, membership scheme (approx. 10 or 12 subscribers). SM will be updating and mailchimp etc.
Nominated and shortlisted for the Kings Award for Voluntary Service. Winners announced on 14th November but we may get early notification from end Oct.
2. AGM Business:
a) Elect roles and responsibilities
SM will continue as Chair
Ben Jacobs has stepped down as Vice Chair. Thanks to Ben for all his work in the role, and for maintaining website, mailing list and tech. VBH volunteered to take on the Vice Chair role – Thank you Vanessa
LB will continue as Secretary
GM will continue as Treasurer
b) Finance: annual report
Finance report shared with members.
More fundraising is needed to cover ongoing costs
and new projects.
c) Future plans
Worthington Woods – Brambles need controlling to maintain grassland and biodiversity. Work Party November 16th.
Rush Weaving pop-up event was held at WW and in Glastonbury. Concern about lack of engagement from local children and families. Possible suggestions - Kids Day next autumn (apple bobbing, toffee apples?) Mental Health? CAMHS. Green Prescribing. Look to link up with organisations/GPs/The Space etc.
GC suggested another Wilder Wedmore Festival. Possibly 2027.
Wilder Wedmore Legacy - Swift Tower. School competition to design the tower maybe to be located at Worthington Woods.
20th anniversary Party to be planned for 2026.
Possible venue change? Attendance has dropped since meeting at the farm. Look at other venues again.
LCN Local Nature Recovery Strategy launch public consultation next week. Breakfast meeting to encourage new groups involvement.
3. Update on actions and activities
Wedmore in Bloom – Waterbutts. SM had a meeting with Shona, offered help with water useage. WiB look after around 70 tubs in the parish. Shops/Village Hall etc plus volunteer waterers to be offered free water butts. Drought-resistant planters at Village Hall?
Parish council – Environmental Committee has been established. Feature published in IOW News. Dave Kirley is Chair and has been invited to attend the group. Need to build good relationship to share ideas etc.
New leaflets – LH has arranged for some to be put some in St Mary’s church.
4. Upcoming events:
Repair Café Sat 4th October 10-1pm (cakes and helpers needed) Mike Rippon organising fixers and SM the café. Fixy van cannot attend.
Big Tidy Up 26 October – 10am Borough Yard.
Freecycle Sun 12 October 10-12.
Worthington Woods Work Party – 16th November 10am
